Shining Light on Truth
FALL – Poetry
HAIKU
Flightless little bird,
Your wings carried all your grief,
Now you carry none
– Those who know they can escape their cage mourn their inability to do so. A flightless bird knows there is no escape and accepts its fate.
Alluding to systemic pressures and the caged feeling citizens have, and their complacency comes from feeling like they have no wings.
ACROSTIC
Before the sun comes the storm
Early in the morning, a quickened pulse gives it away
For your heart knows the storm is here
Remember to sit tight
Everything will be okay in due time
Everyone will find their freedom in due time
– There are very dark times approaching us politically in the United States, but we will find our way.
